JEWELRY CLEANING
CLEANING CLOTHS : Although caring for and cleaning with a cleaning cloth is more time-consuming than cleaning with a dip bath, for example, it is a much gentler treatment for the jewelry. This also removes dust and sometimes grease and the silver becomes shiny again. The surface becomes denser over time and is therefore more resistant to tarnishing. The cleaning cloth is not recommended for matte silver.
IMMERSION BATH : For heavier soiling, silver or jewelery immersion baths are the better cleaning method. The cleaning fluid has the advantage that it can penetrate into otherwise hard-to-reach areas and achieve a deep cleaning. Discoloration and stains dissolve quickly. This type of cleaning is also very effective for matte silver.
IMPORTANT FOR IMMERSION BATHS : After immersion, rinse the jewelry well under running water and polish it thoroughly dry. Please remember that you should never clean jewelry with pearls or soft stones in the immersion bath. You should also never clean gold and silver jewelry in the same immersion bath. Please always use two separate immersion baths.
TARNISHING : Silver jewelry and gold-plated jewelry tarnish over time. How quickly this happens depends on many factors. In addition to hydrogen sulfide in the air, organic sulfur compounds also cause silver to corrode, such as the components of hand sweat. Touching silver with bare hands therefore leads to the formation of a sulfide layer. High humidity accelerates silver corrosion. It is therefore advisable to pack cleaned and, above all, well-dried jewelry in an airtight container for storage, away from sunlight.
